Visit to Uppsala this weekend…

We made a quick visit to Uppsala this weekend, to let my parents have a look at where Bori lives and to visit her in her new “home” We all had a good time, and perfect weather both for driving and walking! We walked around town a bit, had some nice food (yummy indian food) and found some nice clothes for the girls. Bad thing; Brummi doesn’t relax when she’s away from home, so a bit of whining (through which I slept like a log without noticing a bit) which meant Judit didn’t get a proper nights sleep. As soon as we got home though Brummi seems back to normal…

Little trip to Göteborg…

Today we made a little trip to Göteborg. We chose the train, since we can both relax, listen to music or podcasts, and don’t have to worry about driving or parking in Göteborg

We arrived at around 1, had a yummie lunch at Andrum (Vegetarian restaurant), then a cup of coffee and semla at a little cafe.

The reason we went to Göteborg was mainly to go and look at a movie, The Imaginarium of dr. Parnassus. I thought the movie was good, but unfortunately the picture and sound quality at the cinema wasn’t the best. I think it would be a better experience in our home cinema actually…

After we saw the movie we had almost two hours until the train left, so we started walking back to the station, had a quick look in femman, where we spent a small fortune (not really) on a chewing bone for Brummi (She will be 2 yrs old tomorrow). The train ride home was smooth (better train than on the way down where we got one of the really small old ones), and when we arrived home it was “only” -21, compared to -25 this morning when we left

Unusual new years eve

We visited our friend Siri’s cabin in the Norwegian country-side. It’s a 90-minute drive from where we live, most of it winding roads through forest and next to lakes. Very beautiful, especially with the winter landscape we have now.

It was a bit cold when we started out, about -19, which mellowed to -16 by the time we arrived. We met with some of Siri’s relatives and friends, and had a lovely evening with good food, games and a warm toasty fireplace.

Since we started getting a bit sleepy we decided to head homewards a bit after 10. As we got half-way home I realized that we would be driving when the new years bell tolled, and according to Hungarian tradition, whatever you’re doing on new years day, you’ll be doing all year (which I why Judit won’t do any cleaning, dishing, washing or anything boring today).

When we drove it felt like we were the only ones on the roads, since there was a fresh cover of snow, and there were no other tracks visible. The snow also made the sound of the road very soft, so it was like zooming or flying forward, with a big trail of snow-smoke behind us, and not another car in sight.

As the time neared midnight we entered Sweden (probably we were the last ones to cross the Norwegian-Swedish border at Svinesund in 2009), and saw people starting to fire of fireworks. At the strike of midnight we were only 5 km from home, and listened to the Swedish anthem on the radio, made our wishes, and wished each other a happy new year.

An unusual, but lovely new years eve.

Another trip soon?

It seems like I might be going on another work-trip soon, this time to Belgium. I look forward to it, I’ve never been to Belgium, and I’ve heard they’re not very bad at chocolate

It’s probably only going to be a quickie, i.e. arrive evening, work next day, then fly home. But still, you get to see a little bit of the place at least…

On the road…

…or more correctly on the rail… Right now I’m sitting on the X2000 train from Gothenburg to Stockholm. It was really freezing in Uddevalla this morning, I was happy I had my gloves, hat and scarve…

When I arrive in Stockholm I will take Bori out to dinner. Hopefully they have a bunch of good restaurants to pick from in the area I’m staying…

A few busy weeks…

…ahead of me now. This week I’m off to Stockholm for some training in a new CMS-system. I haven’t been in Stockholm (properly) for quite some years, so I’m looking forward to that. Taking the train there and back, staying at a nice hotel, getting to learn new things, which I really like. I’m also going to take the opportunity to try to find a new jacket, since the one I have isn’t in one piece anymore, and there aren’t any local shops that I have stuff I like (or if I like it I can’t afford it).

I’m also working on the new website for the Swedish Tibetan Mastiff Club, of which I am now the webmaster. The current page is nice, and has been added to over a long period, and it has lots of good info, but it’s always nice to try to change things up, so I’ve built a new system, based on WordPress, which will allow a number of users to edit and update info, and let the club get into the social media-sphere a bit more…
