I’m into movies in a big way, and so last year I decided I would spend some money and lots of time on turning one of the rooms in the basement into a small home cinema.
The room I chose isn’t very big, only 2,5 meters wide and 4 meters long, but I figured it would be well suited since it didn’t have windows, and was nice and dry since we fixed the drainage on that side of the house.
First it had to be emptied, which took a bit of time, since that room was used as a sort of “don’t know what to do with it? dump it here”-room (as you can see from the photo)… Then I had to check that the current walls were ok and not damaged by moisture. Then I proceeded with making a proper floor, making sure it is well ventilated since it is on top of a concrete slab. Then I build new inner walls. Then lots of work with making the walls nice and level before painting them.
I chose the colour scheme from my favourite TV-series, Star Trek The Next Generation. When the painting was done I put in a wall-to-wall carpet, a custom-sized tv-bench (which I made), some nice effect-full lights and a few shelves and a sofa. Done!
We have since spent many hours there, watching all sorts of movies, and it’s a very special experience.
